CLIFFHANGER-PACKED BRITISH MURDER MYSTERY FROM BROADCHURCH BOSS ANNOUNCED AT ITV

ITV has commissioned a series adaptation of Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall's debut novel, Death at the White Hart.

The commission comes in advance of the book's publication in the UK on March 27 and the US on June 10, with ITV bosses Polly Hill and Kevin Lygo greenlighting a straight to series order.

Death at the White Hart centres on Detective Nicola Bridge, who must "unpick a web of lies and rivalries" in order to uncover the killer of a pub landlord in the Dorset village of Fleetcombe.

Chibnall will both executive produce and write the TV adaptation, which goes into production next year. Casting details will be announced at a later date.

"Polly's dynamic vote of confidence in Death at the White Hart made it a no-brainer to bring the novel to the screen with ITV," said Chibnall.

"Within this cliffhanger-packed murder mystery sits a specifically British story about how people live their lives right now. There’s no better home for it than ITV."

Polly Hill, ITV's Director of Drama, added: "I am very excited to be working with Chris and Red Planet Pictures again and that ITV will be home to his wonderful debut novel.

"I think it’s a perfect partnership, and I know the adaptation with Chris at the helm, will make an unmissable drama. It’s all the more special for us that Chris returns to Dorset once again with this very British murder and wonderful new investigation team."

Meanwhile, Chibnall's Netflix adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery is also on the way, starring BAFTA Rising Star winner Mia McKenna-Bruce, The Hobbit actor Martin Freeman, and The Crown's Helena Bonham Carter.

Death at the White Hart is yet to receive a release date but will air on ITV1 and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
