SOAP STAR DIES AFTER DEVASTATING CAR CRASH FORCED ACTRESS INTO RETIREMENT

Beloved actress Chantal Nobel has died. This comes over 40 years after a car accident forced her to withdraw from public life, leaving her disabled.

She passed away at her home in Ramatuelle, France on 30 April aged 77. Her daughter Anne-Charlotte Julian confirmed the sad news to AFP, stating: "My mother passed away peacefully. She remained a fighter until the very end."

The cause of death has not been disclosed, but it has been announced that her funeral will take place on 7 May. Her acting career began in the late 1960s with The Black Hand in 1968 and La Honte de la famille in 1969.

She shot to stardom playing Florence Berg in the hit French soap opera Châteauvallon in 1985. Tragically, her world was turned upside down in April that same year when she was severely injured in a car crash following an episode of the television programme Champs-Élysées.

She was a passenger in the vehicle, driven by renowned singer Sacha Distel, who was en route to a stock-car championship when his Porsche lost control. After spending six weeks in a coma she was left with permanent disabilities, reports the Express.

A further consequence of the accident was amendments to French law after three paparazzi gained access to her hospital room and photographed her.

This prompted the Court of Appeal of Paris on 17 March 1986 to broaden the concept of domicile respect, establishing that a hospital room is regarded as the private residence of the patient during their recovery.

Six months following her accident she married jeweller and philanthropist Jean-Louis Julian, who passed away in 2024. Speaking to Télé Star about their life in Ramatuelle in 2010 she said: "I am radiant... Here, my life is peaceful and happy..."

"I remain 80% disabled. Naturally, my life has completely changed. Of these twenty-five years, I remember my resurrection and the love that binds me to my husband."
