Tottenham receive major blow as Rodrigo Bentancur is set to be out for a couple of months after sustaining an injury against Aston Villa.
Alasdair Gold reports that the Uruguayan midfielder has torn his ankle ligament following the rash tackle by Matt Cash on Sunday.
As per Football London, he is ‘not expected to return until February’.
It’s extremely unfortunate for the player jwo had just returned from a long standing injury. It was his first start for Spurs since February.
The injury adds to Ange’s problems who is now working with a depleted Spurs squad.
He has nine players unavailable either through injury or suspension and Pape Matar Sarr who missed the Villa game from an issue sustained during the international break is also going to be assessed further this week.
Tottenham have now lost 3 consecutive games after a ten game unbeaten run. They have dropped down from the first place to 5th.
Their next game is against defending Champions Manchester City which could make it 4 defeats in 4 for Ange.
Despite the defeat against Villa, Spurs put in an outstanding performance and could have scored at least four goals on another day.
The upcoming transfer window is huge for Tottenham. They need to sign several players in order to strengthen their squad. Failure to do so could be further derail their season and really hurt their chances of finishing top 4.
