Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is now facing more than two months on the sidelines after his injury against Aston Villa.
Rodrigo Bentancur has suffered a major blow amid claims he will now miss at least two months of action for Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to reports from Uruguayan journalist Federico Buysan, who has taken to social media to report on Bentancur’s injury.
Bentancur made his long-awaited return to the Tottenham starting lineup in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
The midfielder suffered major knee injury in February and faced a long, long road back to the Spurs lineup.
Sadly, disaster struck in the first half as Bentancur was scythed down by Matty Cash, meaning he had to come off injured after failing to battle through the pain.
Tottenham fans were devastated; Bentancur had started the game so well with his composure on the ball and passing ability on show.
After being without Bentancur for so long, Tottenham supporters just wanted to hear something positive about his injury.
Uruguayan journalist Federico Buysan now reports that Bentancur has torn a ligament in his ankle following Cash’s challenge.
Buysan claims that Bentancur will be missing for at least two months and isn’t expected to return until February.
That’s a bitter pill for Tottenham to swallow, especially with so many injuries in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Buysan is a reliable source here; he was the first reporter to state that Bentancur faced at least six months out after his injury against Leicester City.
This is the last thing Tottenham fans wanted to hear, but they will now have to come to terms with seeing Bentancur on the sidelines once again.
Going through such a long lay-off was a challenge both physically and mentally for Bentancur, so this latest blow is an enormous setback.
Let’s just hope that Bentancur’s recovery goes well and that he can return to action for Tottenham with no more problems in 2024.
